Eleko is one of the fastest-growing areas in Lagos State today. Many years ago, people only knew Eleko because of its popular beach, but things have changed. Today, because of the massive industrial projects happening around the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Eleko has become a major "bus stop" for workers, tourists, and real estate investors.
If you are planning to visit Eleko for the first time, you need to know that it is quite a distance from the Lagos Mainland. It sits along the popular Lekki-Epe Expressway. Whether you are going there to "flex" at the beach or you have business at the refinery side, this guide will show you the way, the cost, and what to expect.
Eleko is located in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State. It is situated deep within the Lekki peninsula, far after places like Ajah and Sangotedo. The terrain is mostly coastal, which is why the air there feels fresh and the ground is sandy.
Eleko is bordered by other communities like Akodo to the east and Iberikodo to the west. It serves as a major junction (Eleko Junction) that leads to the famous Eleko Beach and the road that goes straight to the Dangote Refinery and the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
When you are inside a bus and you are looking for where to "drop," keep an eye out for these places:
To get to Eleko, your main target is to first get to Ajah. Ajah is like the headquarters for transport heading towards the Ibeju-Lekki axis.
1. From Lagos Island (CMS/Obalende): Enter a big bus or "Coaster" bus heading to Ajah. When you drop at Ajah, walk towards the "Underbridge" or the park heading to Epe. Enter a bus and tell them you will drop at Eleko Junction.
2. From Oshodi: Look for buses going to Ajah. Once you reach Ajah, follow the same step of entering an Epe-bound bus and dropping at Eleko Junction.
3. From Eleko Junction to the Beach: Once you drop at the junction, you will see many "Korope" (small shuttle buses) or bikes that go straight to the beach gate. It is a straight road from the junction.
Please note that transport fares in Lagos can change depending on the time of day, rain, or fuel price. Here is a rough guide of what you should have in your pocket:
| Route | Transport Mode | Fare Range (β¦) |
|---|---|---|
| Ajah to Eleko Junction | Minibus (Korope) / Danfo | β¦700 - β¦1,200 |
| CMS to Ajah | BRT / Coaster Bus | β¦800 - β¦1,500 |
| Eleko Junction to Eleko Beach | Bike / Small Shuttle | β¦300 - β¦600 |
| Oshodi to Ajah | Big Bus | β¦1,200 - β¦2,000 |
If you want to have a smooth journey to Eleko, these are the best places to board your bus:
1. Go Early: The Lekki-Epe Expressway is known for heavy truck traffic because of the refinery. If you are going for a beach party, leave early so you don't spend 3 hours in traffic.
2. Hold Small Money (Change): Lagos conductors can be "funny" with change. Try to have β¦100 and β¦200 notes handy.
3. Be Careful at Night: The road from Eleko Junction to the beach can be very dark at night. If you are staying late, make sure you have a pre-arranged ride or you are in a group.
4. Identify Your Bus: Always make sure the bus you enter is heading towards "Epe" if you want to drop at Eleko Junction.
Eleko is under the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The gate fee usually ranges between β¦500 - β¦1,000 depending on the day (weekends are sometimes more expensive).
Yes, you can get a ride-hailing service to Eleko, but it might be expensive because of the distance. Also, getting a ride back might be difficult, so it is better to have a standby driver or use public transport.
