Moving from Coker (Surulere/Orile area) to Banana Island (Ikoyi) takes you from the Mainland to one of the most exclusive parts of the Island. Because of high fuel prices and heavy traffic, you need to plan your budget and your timing carefully. The journey requires changing buses at major connection points like Orile, Costain, or Obalende before using a final shuttle or ride-hailing car to enter the estate.

Best Time to Travel
To beat the heavy morning rush, leave Coker between 5:30 AM and 6:15 AM. For afternoon or off-peak travel, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM is best. Avoid leaving the Island between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM unless you are ready for severe gridlock.

Walk or take a short Keke from your house in Coker to the main Coker Bus Stop on the Badagry Expressway.
Board a yellow Danfo bus going to Orile or Costain. Drop at Costain under-bridge.
At Costain, look for the big buses or Danfos going straight to Obalende via Eko Bridge.
From Obalende, enter a white Ikoyi/Banana Island shuttle bus or take a Keke heading towards inner Ikoyi, dropping at the Banana Island gate.
Pass through security screening at the gate and take the internal estate shuttle or walk to your final destination inside the estate.
Always hold small change (change denominatons like β¦200 and β¦500) to pay the Danfo conductors so they do not tie your money with another passenger.
Keep your phones and wallets deep inside your bag when waiting for buses at Costain or Obalende, especially in the early mornings.
Download a ride-hailing app as a backup for the final leg from Obalende if you are carrying heavy bags.
Ask the conductor clearly if the bus is passing through Eko Bridge or Third Mainland Bridge before you enter.

Safety Rating
Medium - The Mainland leg requires high alertness, especially at Orile and Costain under-bridge where pickpockets operate. Once you cross over to Ikoyi and Banana Island, the environment is very secure, but you must carry a valid ID card to pass through the estate security gates.
BRT / Rail / Water
The Lagos Blue Line Rail is available nearby at the Mile 2 or Alaba stations, but it stops at Marina. You can take the train from Orile/Mile 2 to Marina to skip Mainland traffic, then enter a standard bus or taxi from Marina to Obalende and Ikoyi. Standard BRT buses also run from coastal areas to Obalende.

No, pedestrians are not allowed to just walk into the estate casually for security reasons. You must have a visitor's access code, valid identity card, and you must use the official estate shuttle buses or an approved ride-hailing vehicle to go inside.
Because of current fuel inflation, you should budget between β¦5,000 and β¦7,000 for a round trip (going and coming back) if you are using standard Danfo buses and estate shuttles. It is safer to carry extra cash in case of sudden rain or evening transport scarcity.
The station itself is heavily guarded and safe, but the footwalks and streets leading to the station can be risky before 6:00 AM. It is best to take a Keke or ride with other commuters rather than walking alone in the dark.
The fastest alternative is to take the Blue Line Train from Orile to Marina. The train completely bypasses the Eko Bridge bottleneck, cutting your travel time by more than one hour during peak morning traffic.
