This guide covers the long commute from Festac Town in Mainland Lagos to Victoria Garden City (VGC) on the Island. This journey takes you across the city from west to east, cutting through major commercial hubs. Because of the heavy traffic on the bridges and the Lekki axis, your travel time can change a lot depending on when you leave.

Take a local Keke or commercial bus from your estate in Festac out to First Gate or Mile 2 bus stop.
From Mile 2, enter a large commercial bus or Danfo going straight to Oshodi under-bridge.
At Oshodi, go to the Island park and board a direct Danfo going to Obalende or CMS.
From Obalende or CMS, enter another Danfo or a larger coastal bus heading straight to Ajah, and tell the driver you will drop at VGC bus stop.
Always hold small change (legal tender notes) to pay the conductors so you do not get delayed or mixed up in 'change matching' arguments.
Keep your bag zipped and hold it closely to your chest when navigating through Mile 2 and Oshodi parks.
Ask the conductor clearly if the bus is passing through the expressway or inside streets before you enter.
Because of recent fuel price increases, you should budget between β¦5,000 and β¦8,000 for a complete round trip using Danfo buses. It is always wise to carry an extra β¦2,000 in cash just in case traffic worsens or rain falls, which pushes fares up suddenly.
If you are using a private car or ride-hailing app, check your map before leaving. Third Mainland Bridge is usually faster if you leave very early, but if it is blocked, Eko Bridge connecting to CMS and the Lekki Expressway is the best alternative.
No, there are no standard direct Danfo buses from Festac straight to VGC or Ajah. You must break the journey into parts, stopping first at major hubs like Mile 2, Oshodi, CMS, or Obalende before getting an Island-bound bus.
If it gets late (past 9:00 PM), stay in well-lit areas where many passengers are standing. Only enter buses that have a proper conductor and are visibly full of regular commuters. Avoid isolated dark corners and do not accept rides from unmarked private cars ('soole').

Best Time to Travel
To beat the worst traffic, leave Festac as early as 5:00 AM to 5:30 AM if you want to get to the Island before 8:00 AM. For afternoon travel, move between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Avoid leaving Festac between 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM, and avoid leaving the Island back to Festac between 4:30 PM and 8:30 PM.
Safety Rating
Medium - The route is generally safe during the day, but you must be careful at major bus stops like Mile 2, Oshodi, and Ajah under-bridge. Watch out for pickpockets and do not display your phone or wallet near the bus windows. Avoid moving late at night as 'one-chance' buses operate around these areas.
BRT / Rail / Water
There is no direct BRT bus or train line from Festac to VGC. However, you can use the Blue Line Rail from Mile 2 to Marina to skip the mainland traffic entirely. From Marina, you will need to take a standard Danfo bus or a coastal bus down to Lekki and VGC.
