Moving from the busy commercial hub of Ikeja to the populated residential area of Okokomaiko takes you across major parts of mainland Lagos. This commute connects you through central transport hubs like Oshodi and Mile 2 before heading straight down the long Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Because of the ongoing construction and high number of commuters on this road, your choice of vehicle and travel time will determine how fast or stressful the journey becomes.

Walk to Ikeja Under-Bridge or Allen Avenue and board a direct commercial bus (Danfo) going to Oshodi.
Drop at Oshodi bus stop and walk into the terminal area to board another Danfo heading straight down to Mile 2.
Alight at Mile 2 Oke, cross the pedestrian bridge safely, and find the buses loading passengers for Okokomaiko.
Stay on the bus through Maza Maza, Agboju, and Iyana Iba, then tell the conductor you want to drop at Okokomaiko last stop.
Always hold small change (called 'lesser denominations') in your hand to pay the conductor so you do not get stuck sharing 'change' with a stranger.
Listen carefully to the conductor when they call destinations to make sure you do not enter a short-service bus that drops you halfway.
Secure your zip bags tightly across your chest when walking through the crowded walkways at Oshodi and Mile 2.
If you notice passengers whispering or acting strange inside a Danfo you just entered, tell the driver you want to drop immediately.

Safety Rating
Medium - You must be very alert, especially at major connection points like Oshodi and Mile 2. Pickpockets are common in these crowded spaces. Keep your phone and wallet safe inside your bag, do not carry cash openly, and avoid entering unmarked vehicles (one-chance) at night.
BRT / Rail / Water
Yes, there is partial mass transit available. You can use standard BRT buses from Oshodi to Mile 2. Also, the Lagos Blue Line Rail is fully active from Mile 2 to Marina, and the second phase extending the tracks from Mile 2 down to Okokomaiko is currently under heavy construction with a target completion around late 2026 or 2027.

Not completely yet. The train is currently running smoothly from Marina to Mile 2. The extension tracks down to Okokomaiko are still being built by the government. For now, you can take the train to Mile 2, then finish the rest of your trip to Okokomaiko by road using a bus.
Due to current transport fare inflation, it is safe to have at least β¦4,000 in cash on you for a round trip by bus. Always keep some extra money separate in case fares suddenly go up during a heavy evening rush or a sudden downpour.
Mile 2 can become very unsafe late at night. If you find yourself there after 9:00 PM with no standard buses available, walk quickly to well-lit areas near petrol stations or police check-points. Try to join group commercial vehicles ('unloading' buses) rather than standing alone, or order a verified ride-hailing car to pick you up from a safe landmark.
Direct buses from Ikeja to Okokomaiko are very rare and usually hard to find. It is much faster and more reliable to take a bus to Oshodi or Mile 2 first, and then connect directly to Okokomaiko from there.
