Moving from Ilupeju to Epe means traveling from the mainland part of Lagos down to the far eastern side of the island. The journey takes you through major expressways and can be very long, especially when traffic builds up. Because of recent fuel price increases across Nigeria, transport fares have gone up significantly, so you need to plan your budget well before stepping out.

Take a short Keke or walk from your location in Ilupeju to the main road at Palmgrove Bus Stop or Oshodi Interchange.
Board a commercial Danfo bus or a Coaster bus heading straight to Ajah. Ensure you ask the conductor to confirm they are dropping at Ajah Under-bridge.
From Ajah Under-bridge, walk to the local park and enter another Danfo bus going directly to Epe T-Junction or Eleko.
Once you drop at Epe, take a local Keke or small town bus to your final exact destination inside Epe town.
Always hold small change (change notes like β¦200 and β¦500) to avoid fighting with the bus conductors.
Keep your phones and wallets inside your bags securely when passing through Oshodi or Ajah parks.
Ask the driver if the bus is going 'express' or if it will be stopping to pick passengers along the way.
Check the vehicle tyres and overall condition before boarding, as some rickety buses breakdown halfway through the long Lekki-Epe road.
If there is no heavy traffic, the trip can take about 2 to 2.5 hours. However, during evening peak hours or heavy downpours, it can easily take up to 3.5 or 4 hours due to bottle-necks around Ajah and Sangotedo.
Yes, if you are using a private car or ride-hailing service, you will pass through the Lekki Toll Gate. Commercial buses usually include this cost in their transport fare, but private riders must ensure their e-tags are loaded or have cash ready.
Direct buses from Oshodi to Epe are very rare. Most times, you will have to take a bus from Oshodi to Ajah first, and then take another connecting bus from Ajah straight into Epe.
If it gets late (past 9:00 PM) and you cannot find an Epe bus at Ajah, look for covered filling stations or well-lit areas. It is safer to find an online ride or enter a short-drop bus to a safe area like Sangotedo to sleep over rather than standing at a dark bus stop.

Best Time to Travel
To avoid the worst traffic, leave Ilupeju very early between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM, or wait until mid-morning around 10:00 AM when the early rush is over. Avoid moving toward Epe between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM because that is when everyone is heading home on the island.
Safety Rating
Medium - The route is generally safe during the day, but you must stay alert at major bus stops like Oshodi and Ajah where pickpockets operate. Avoid traveling late at night because lighting is poor on parts of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, making it easy for one-chance buses or criminals to operate.
BRT / Rail / Water
There is no direct BRT bus or train line that goes all the way from Ilupeju to Epe. However, you can use the standard BRT buses from Fadeyi or Oshodi to move smoothly to Obalende or CMS before connecting to island buses.
