Best Time to Travel

Early morning (departing Lawanson by 5 AM) is ideal to beat Lagos traffic and maximize daylight hours for the long journey. Avoid traveling on Fridays and Sundays on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway if possible, as traffic is usually heaviest. Absolutely avoid night travel by road for safety reasons.

Safety Rating

Medium. While major highways are generally safer during the day, long-distance road travel in Nigeria carries inherent risks. Ensure you travel with reputable companies and avoid night journeys. Security concerns like kidnapping and armed robbery, though reduced, still exist on some stretches, especially between Oyo and Jebba, and parts of the Abuja-Kaduna axis. Always be alert and aware of your surroundings.

BRT / Rail / Water

BRT is available for local travel within Lagos (e.g., from Ojuelegba to Ikorodu Road, but not for the full interstate journey). Rail options: 1. Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Rail: You can take this from Mobolaji Johnson Station (Ebute Metta, Lagos) to Moniya (Ibadan). From Moniya, you'd need to find road transport to continue the journey north. 2. Abuja-Kaduna Standard Gauge Rail: If you opt for a flight to Kaduna or travel by road to Kaduna, you can take the train from Kaduna Rigasa to Abuja Idu. This is not a direct route from Lagos to Abuja, but a segment.
