Whether you're planning a visit, moving to the area, or just curious, read on to become an Idimu expert!
Idimu is a prominent and densely populated area situated in the Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State. Alimosho is famously known as the largest LGA in Lagos State by population, making Idimu a key residential and commercial hub within this vast local government.
Idimu is strategically located, sharing borders with several other well-known areas within Alimosho and beyond. To its east, you'll find Ejigbo and Ikotun. To the west, it borders Egbeda and Shasha. To the south, it connects towards Akowonjo and Dopemu, eventually leading to areas like Agege and Ikeja. Its northern flank extends towards Ayobo and Ipaja.
The general terrain of Idimu is mostly flat, characterized by a mix of residential buildings, commercial centers, markets, and educational institutions. It's a busy area with a strong community feel, offering a blend of modern amenities and traditional Lagosian life. Major roads like the Idimu-Ejigbo Road and the Idimu-Egbeda Road crisscross the area, facilitating movement.
Navigating to Idimu from different parts of Lagos is relatively straightforward, thanks to its central location within Alimosho and good road networks. Hereβs a breakdown of how you can get there from major hubs:
Oshodi is one of Lagos's biggest transport hubs, making it a common starting point for many travelers.
From Oshodi, you can easily find buses heading towards Ikotun or Egbeda.
Option 1 (Direct): Look for yellow 'danfo' minibuses heading directly to Idimu. These are usually available at the Oshodi Underbridge park or the main Oshodi bus terminal.
Option 2 (Connecting via Egbeda): If direct buses are scarce, take a bus going to Egbeda. From Egbeda bus stop, you can easily find another 'danfo' or 'keke napep' (tricycle) heading to Idimu. The journey from Egbeda to Idimu is quite short.
Option 3 (Connecting via Ikotun): Alternatively, take a bus heading to Ikotun. From Ikotun roundabout, you can take another 'danfo' or 'keke napep' to Idimu.
Ikeja, the state capital, is another major point of departure.
Option 1 (Direct): At Ikeja Underbridge or the Ikeja Along bus stop, you can find 'danfo' buses going directly to Idimu. These might be less frequent than those going to Egbeda or Ikotun.
Option 2 (Connecting via Egbeda): Take a bus from Ikeja (e.g., from Ikeja Along or Computer Village bus stop) heading to Egbeda. Once you drop at Egbeda, take another 'danfo' or 'keke napep' to Idimu.
Option 3 (Connecting via Shasha/Akowonjo): You can also find buses from Ikeja heading to Shasha or Akowonjo. From either of these points, Idimu is a short 'keke napep' or 'okada' (motorcycle) ride away.
From Lagos Island/CMS/Marina: Take a bus from CMS or Marina to Oshodi. From Oshodi, follow the directions above.
From Ajah/Lekki: Take a bus from Ajah or Lekki to Oshodi or CMS, then connect to Idimu as described.
From Ketu/Mile 12: Take a bus to Oshodi, then connect to Idimu.
As you approach and navigate Idimu, look out for these prominent landmarks:
Idimu Market: A major commercial hub where you can find almost anything.
Idimu Police Station: A recognizable point.
Idimu General Hospital: An important health facility.
Idimu Bus Stop: The central bus stop where most public transport vehicles drop passengers.
Transport fares in Lagos are dynamic and can change based on fuel prices, time of day (rush hour), and traffic conditions. The ranges provided below are estimates for 2026. Always confirm with the driver or conductor before boarding.

Within Idimu itself, the Idimu Bus Stop (often simply called "Idimu Roundabout" by locals) is the central point for dropping off and picking up passengers, and for connecting to other parts of Alimosho.
Traveling in any busy Lagos area requires some awareness. Here are some tips for a safe and smooth journey to and within Idimu:
Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Like in any busy area, keep an eye on your belongings. Avoid displaying expensive items openly.
Travel During Daylight: If you're new to the area, it's generally safer and easier to navigate during the day.

Use Reputable Ride-Hailing Apps: For late-night travel or if you prefer more comfort, ride-hailing services are a good option.
Traffic: Idimu, like most parts of Lagos, experiences heavy traffic during peak hours (morning and evening rush). Plan your travel accordingly.
Cash is King: While some places accept digital payments, always have small denominations of cash for transport fares and market purchases.
