If you are new to Lagos or planning to move to the mainland, you might have heard about Ijegun. Ijegun is one of the most popular residential and commercial hubs in the heart of Lagos mainland. It is a place that never sleeps, filled with small businesses, schools, and a very large population of workers who commute to other parts of the state daily.
Knowing your way around Ijegun is very important because Lagos has many places that sound similar. For example, people often confuse the Ijegun in Alimosho with Ijegun-Egba (which is near Satellite Town). In this guide, we are focusing on the main Ijegun located in the Alimosho axis, explaining how to get there, the landmarks to look out for, and the current transport fares.
Ijegun is located within the Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA). Alimosho is the largest LGA in Lagos, and Ijegun is one of its key towns. It shares boundaries with other popular areas like Ikotun, Isheri-Osun, and Bucknor. The terrain is mostly flat, but like many parts of Lagos, some areas can experience flash floods during very heavy rainfall.
The town is strategically positioned such that you can easily connect to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway via Cele Bus Stop or move towards the LASU-Iba road through Ikotun. This makes it a central point for many commuters.
When you "enter bus" going to Ijegun, these are some of the popular places you will hear people mention as their "drop":
Getting to Ijegun is quite straightforward because it is linked by several major roads. Here are the most common ways to reach the area:
This is perhaps the most popular route. Once you "drop" at Cele Bus Stop, head towards the side going into the street (Okota/Itire side). You will see yellow buses (Danfo) and tricycles (Keke Napep) heading straight to Ijegun. The road passes through Itire and Ijesha axis before hitting the Ijegun road.
If you are coming from Iyana-Ipaja or Egbeda, you will first get to Ikotun. From the Ikotun roundabout or the garage, you can board a direct bus or Keke to Ijegun. This is a very short trip, usually taking about 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.
Commuters coming from Oshodi or Isolo can pass through Jakande Gate and Ejigbo. From Ejigbo, there are buses that pass through Bucknor to link up with the Ijegun main road.
Transport fares in Lagos change based on the time of day and the weather. If it is raining or it is "rush hour" (early morning and evening), the prices usually go up. Below is an estimated fare range for common routes to Ijegun:
| Route | Transport Mode | Fare Range (β¦) |
|---|---|---|
| Cele Bus Stop to Ijegun | Yellow Bus (Danfo) | β¦500 - β¦800 |
| Ikotun to Ijegun | Keke Napep / Bus | β¦200 - β¦400 |
| Oshodi to Ijegun (Direct) | Yellow Bus (Danfo) | β¦1,200 - β¦1,700 |
| Iyana-Ipaja to Ijegun | Two-way Bus (via Ikotun) | β¦1,000 - β¦1,500 |
If you want to have a comfortable journey, it is best to board from recognized parks. At Cele Bus Stop, the park is located right under the bridge or by the side of the expressway. At Ikotun, the main Ikotun Garage is the best place to find a bus that won't "carry" you to the wrong place.
Ijegun is under the Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos State.
