Getting to Meiran is quite straightforward because it sits along the major highway that connects Lagos to Abeokuta. However, because of current fuel prices and transport inflation, the cost of moving around has changed significantly. Here is how you can navigate your way to Meiran from different major parts of Lagos.

1. Coming from Oshodi

Oshodi is the central transport hub of Lagos Mainland. From the Oshodi Under-Bridge or the main terminals, you can board a yellow commercial bus (popularly called Danfo) heading towards Toll Gate, Sango, or Ifo. Tell the driver or conductor that you will drop at Meiran Bus Stop. The bus will pass through Ikeja Along, Iyana Ipaja, and Abule Egba before getting to Meiran.

2. Coming from Iyana Ipaja

Iyana Ipaja is much closer to Meiran. Go to the garage under the bridge or the garage facing the expressway. You can enter a direct Danfo going to Meiran, or enter a bus going to Sango and drop at Meiran. Alternatively, you can board a tricycle (popularly called Keke Marwa) that goes through inner routes if you want to bypass heavy expressway traffic.

3. Coming from Lagos Island (CMS / Marina / Obalende)

If you are coming from the Island, your journey will be longer. The most common route is to take a large bus or Danfo from CMS or Obalende straight to Oshodi or Iyana Ipaja. Once you drop at Oshodi or Iyana Ipaja, you will then board another bus heading towards Sango or Toll Gate and drop at Meiran Bus Stop. Some air-conditioned BRT buses also run from the Island to parts of the Mainland, which can offer a more comfortable ride before you switch to a local bus.

4. Moving Inside Meiran Community

Once you drop at the main Meiran Bus Stop on the expressway, you cannot easily walk into the deep residential parts because the area is large. At the entrance of Meiran Road, you will find a park for Keke Marwa and local Danfo buses. You can enter a shared Keke or bus heading to LASUED, Command, or inside the estates. If you are in a hurry or carrying heavy luggage, you can hire an individual Keke (called 'drop') or take a commercial motorcycle (Okada) to take you straight to your destination.

Navigating Lagos Mainland requires you to be smart and alert. Here are some highly practical safety tips for your trip to Meiran:

• Hold Your Change: Lagos conductors are notorious for not having small change. Before you board a Danfo from Oshodi or Iyana Ipaja, ask the conductor if he has 'change'. Try to hold smaller denominations like ₦200 and ₦500 notes to avoid stories.
• Watch Your Pockets at Major Bus Stops: Crowded hubs like Oshodi, Iyana Ipaja, and even Abule Egba have pickpockets. Keep your phones and wallets safely inside your main bag, and hold your bag to your chest.
• Avoid Late-Night Movement: While Meiran has an active police station, the inner roads linking Meiran to Command or Ajasa can get very dark and lonely at night. Try to wrap up your journey before 9:00 PM.
• Confirm the Destination Before Entering: Some drivers shout destinations quickly. Double-check with the conductor by asking, "Are you dropping at Meiran?" before you put your legs inside the bus.
