If you are looking for a place that combines a quiet residential life with the busy nature of Lagos trade, then Igbede is one of those places you should know. Igbede is a fast-developing community located in the Ojo axis of Lagos State. Many people moving towards the outskirts of Lagos to build their own houses or find cheaper rent often look towards this area.
Because Lagos has many places with similar names, it is easy to get confused. However, the Igbede we are talking about today is the one located near the water, close to Ijegun-Egba and Satellite Town. In this guide, we will break down how to get there, the local government it falls under, and how much you should expect to pay for transport.
Igbede is located within the Ojo Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State. It is situated along the southwestern part of Lagos, very close to the Badagry Creek. It shares boundaries with areas like Ijegun-Egba, Totowu (in Ogun State but accessed through here), and is not too far from the popular Alaba International Market.
The terrain in Igbede is mostly flat, but because it is close to the lagoon, some parts can be swampy during the heavy rainy season. The area is a mix of traditional settlers and new residents who are moving in to take advantage of the developing land.
Getting to Igbede depends on where you are coming from in Lagos. Most people use the Mile 2 or Iyana-Iba axis as their main starting point.
From Mile 2, you can enter a bus going to Ijegun. Once you get to the last bus stop at Ijegun-Egba, you will see many tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and bikes that go straight into Igbede. This is the most common route for people coming from the Lagos Mainland.
If you are coming from the LASU or Iyana-Iba side, you can take a bus heading towards Volks or Abule-Ado. From there, you can find local transport that links through the inner roads into Igbede. However, most people prefer the Ijegun route because the road is more direct.
Because Igbede is close to the water, there is a jetty nearby. You can actually take a boat from places like CMS or Marina to the Ijegun-Egba jetty, and from there, it is just a short "drop" or Keke ride to Igbede town.
Please note that transport fares in Lagos are never fixed. They change based on the time of day, the weather (rain), and the "fuel situation." Below is a range of what you might spend:
| Route |
|---|
| Transport Mode |
|---|
| Fare Range (β¦) |
|---|
| Mile 2 to Ijegun-Egba | Commercial Bus (Danfo) | β¦500 - β¦800 |
| Ijegun-Egba to Igbede | Tricycle (Keke) | β¦200 - β¦400 |
| Iyana-Iba to Igbede | Bus/Bike | β¦600 - β¦1,000 |
| CMS/Marina to Ijegun Jetty | Speed Boat | β¦1,500 - β¦2,500 |
1. Avoid Late Hours: The road leading into Igbede from Ijegun can be very dark at night. It is better to "enter bus" before 7:00 PM if you are not familiar with the area.
2. Hold Your Change: Always have "smaller denominations" (β¦100, β¦200, β¦500) to pay the Keke or bus drivers to avoid "change" issues.
3. Rainy Season: If it rains heavily, the roads can be a bit muddy. Wear appropriate footwear if you are walking through the inner streets of Igbede.
Igbede is located in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
No, there is usually no direct bus. You have to take a bus to Mile 2 first, then another to Ijegun, before taking a Keke to Igbede.
Yes, Igbede is very close to the Badagry Creek and has access to water transport via the nearby Ijegun-Egba jetty.
