If you have lived in Lagos for a while or you are just moving in, you must have heard of "Command." Located in the northern part of the state, Command Ipaja is a very popular residential area known for its mix of calm neighborhoods and busy commercial activities. It is a place where many Lagos workers live because it connects easily to other parts of the mainland like Agege, Abule Egba, and Oshodi.
Command is not just a bus stop; it is a large community named after the famous Command Secondary School (Military school) located in the area. Whether you are looking to rent an apartment there or you are just visiting a friend, knowing how to navigate the roads and understanding the transport system is very important. In this guide, we will break down everything you need to know about Command, including the Local Government Area, the best ways to "enter bus" to get there, and what the current fares look like.
Command Ipaja falls strictly under the Alimosho Local Government Area. Specifically, it is managed under the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Alimosho is the largest LGA in Lagos, and Command is one of its strategic hubs.
The area shares borders with several other well-known places. To the north, it leads towards Meiran and Abule Egba. To the south and west, it connects towards Ipaja-Ayobo and Baruwa. The terrain is mostly flat, though some inner streets can get muddy during the heavy rainy season. The main road serving this area is the Command-Meiran Road, which has seen some improvements in recent years to help reduce the "go-slow" (traffic) that people face during rush hour.
When you are inside a bus or a Keke Napep, these are the popular places you can use as your "bus stop" or "drop":
Getting to Command is easy because it is a major transit point. Here are the most common ways to get there:
From the big motor park at Oshodi, you can enter a big bus (Molue) or a small bus (Danfo) going to Iyana Ipaja. Once you "drop" at Iyana Ipaja, go under the bridge and find the park where they load buses or Keke going straight to Command.
If you are coming from Ikeja, it is best to get to Agege (Pen Cinema or Under-bridge). From Agege, there are direct buses that pass through Abule Egba and turn into the Command-Meiran road.
This is the shortest route. You can simply take a Keke Napep or a small bus from Abule Egba (Ekoro Road) that goes directly to Command.
Transport fares in Lagos change based on the time of day and the weather. If it is raining or it is "rush hour" (morning and evening), the price will go up. Below is an estimate of what you might pay:
| Route | Transport Mode | Fare Range (β¦) |
|---|---|---|
| Iyana Ipaja to Command | Keke Napep / Small Bus | β¦300 - β¦500 |
| Oshodi to Command (Indirect) | Danfo (Two-way) | β¦1,200 - β¦1,800 |
| Abule Egba to Command | Keke / Danfo | β¦300 - β¦600 |
| Agege to Command | Danfo | β¦600 - β¦1,000 |
Command Ipaja is under Alimosho Local Government Area (Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA).
There is no major military base, but the area is home to the famous Command Secondary School, which is owned and managed by the Nigerian Army.
You can take a Keke Napep or a small yellow bus (Danfo) from the park under the Iyana Ipaja bridge. The trip usually takes 15-30 minutes depending on traffic.
