Moving from CMS to Makoko is a direct journey through the heart of Lagos. It takes you from the busy commercial center of Lagos Island, across the lagoon using the Third Mainland Bridge, and straight into the mainland hubs of Adekunle and Yaba before you enter the historic community of Makoko. The trip can be fast if you beat the morning or evening traffic gridlock.

Walk to the main CMS bus park and find the yellow Danfo buses heading towards Yaba or Sabo.
Board the Danfo and tell the driver or conductor that you will drop at Adekunle Bus Stop.
Drop at Adekunle and cross the road safely to the opposite side where local transport loads.
Board a short-distance Danfo bus or a Keke going towards Makoko or Apollo street.
Always hold change (smaller Naira notes) to avoid fighting with the conductor over balance.
Keep your bags zipped and hold them in front of you at the busy CMS and Adekunle parks.
Ask the conductor clearly if the bus is passing 'Adekunle' before you enter.
Keep your phone inside your pocket or bag while inside the Danfo to prevent phone snatching at traffic lights.
Because of recent fuel price increases, if you use public Danfo buses, the total cost will be around β¦1,000 to β¦1,500. If you decide to take a private ride-hailing car, it will cost between β¦4,500 and β¦7,500 depending on the time of day and traffic.
No, vehicles cannot drive into the floating stilt village. Cars and buses can only stop at the land side of Makoko (along Makoko Road or near the schools). To see or go into the water community, you must use local wooden boats.
It is not recommended to travel this route after 9:00 PM if you are using public buses. The Adekunle junction and the entrances into Makoko can become dark, isolated, and unsafe due to street boys (Area Boys) looking for targets.
Stay calm inside your vehicle. Do not buy expensive items from hawkers if you cannot easily reach your money, and keep your phone out of sight. If you are in a Danfo, ensure you keep your hands inside the window.

Best Time to Travel
The best time to leave CMS is between 10:00 AM and 2:30 PM to avoid the heavy morning and evening rush hours. If you must travel in the morning, try to move before 7:00 AM because traffic builds up quickly heading towards the mainland.
Safety Rating
Medium - While the buses and main roads are generally secure during the day, you must stay alert at the CMS loading parks and Adekunle bus stop. Pickpockets are very common here. Avoid flashing your phones or counting money openly. When walking into Makoko, it is best to go with a local or a known guide, especially as you get closer to the waterfront areas.
BRT / Rail / Water
There is no direct BRT bus or Train line that drops inside Makoko. However, you can take a standard BRT bus from CMS to Yaba bus terminal, and then enter a local bus or Keke to complete your journey to Makoko.
