Best Time to Travel

For morning trips, leave before 7:00 AM to beat the heavy rush hour gridlock heading towards Yaba and the Island. For afternoon or off-peak travel, the best window is between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM when the roads are relatively free. Avoid traveling between 5:00 PM and 8:30 PM unless necessary, as evening traffic can double your travel time.

Safety Rating

Medium - The route is generally safe during the day, but you must be careful at major hubs like Yaba Under-bridge and Adekunle junction. Pickpockets are common in crowded areas. Avoid showing your phone or carrying expensive items openly. Keep your bags zipped and close to your chest, especially when boarding a Danfo or walking through crowded parks.

BRT / Rail / Water

There is no direct BRT bus corridor or Lagos Rail Mass Transit line that links Shomolu directly into the heart of Makoko. However, you can access the standard BRT buses along Ikorodu Road (at Fadeyi or Onipanu) to get to Yaba, from where you must use local transport like a yellow commercial bus (Danfo) or a tricycle (Keke) to complete your journey to Makoko.
