Moving from Oshodi to Akowonjo is a very common daily journey for workers and business owners in Lagos. The journey takes you from the central transport hub of Oshodi through the Agege Motor Road, onto the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and finally branching into Akowonjo via the popular Dopemu or Iyana-Ipaja entry points. While the physical distance is relatively short, your total travel time and transport fare will depend heavily on the time of day, current fuel prices, and heavy hold-up at major junctions.

Best Time to Travel
For morning trips, travel between 10:00 AM and 3:30 PM to avoid the crazy morning rush hour. If you must travel in the morning rush, try to leave Oshodi before 6:30 AM. For evening trips, move before 4:30 PM or wait out the severe traffic until around 8:30 PM.

Walk to the main Oshodi Under-Bridge or the Bolade Bus Stop park where buses heading towards Abule-Egba or Iyana-Ipaja are loading.
Board a yellow Danfo bus going to Iyana-Ipaja. Inform the conductor clearly that you will drop at Dopemu Bus Stop.
Drop at Dopemu Under-Bridge Bus Stop and safely cross to the other side of the road towards the Akowonjo entrance.
Board a short-distance Danfo bus or a Keke Marwa heading straight down Akowonjo Road and drop at your exact destination (such as Miccom, Vulcaniser, or Egbeda).
Always enter the bus with 'change' (smaller naira notes like β¦100 and β¦200) to avoid fights with conductors who do not have balance.
Listen carefully to the conductor when he calls out destinations so you do not board a bus heading to a different route like Mile 2 or Mushin.
Keep your bags zipped and hold them tightly to your chest when passing through the crowded spaces at Oshodi.
If the driver is driving roughly, speak up early along with other passengers for your safety.

Safety Rating
Medium - You must remain highly alert. Oshodi and Iyana-Ipaja are extremely crowded hubs. Keep your phones and wallets safely inside your bags, avoid counting money in public, and beware of 'one-chance' vehicles or pickpockets who mix with the crowd, especially early in the morning and late at night.
BRT / Rail / Water
There is no direct BRT bus or commercial rail line that runs all the way from Oshodi inside to Akowonjo. However, you can use the standard BRT buses or the Lagos Blue/Red Rail line for other parts of Lagos, but for this specific Akowonjo route, you will rely mostly on yellow commercial buses (Danfo) and tricycles (Keke).

Agege Motor Road
Due to recent fuel price increases and high transport inflation, a standard trip by public Danfo bus will cost you between β¦900 and β¦1,500 in total. If you choose to use a private ride-hailing app, the price will range from β¦4,500 to β¦7,500 depending on traffic.
The best and most popular bus stop to drop at is Dopemu Under-Bridge. From Dopemu Under-Bridge, there is a direct gateway road that leads straight into the heart of Akowonjo via tricycles (Keke) and small buses. You can also use Iyana-Ipaja bus stop, but Dopemu is usually more direct for most parts of Akowonjo.
The route is relatively safe because it is a very busy commercial corridor, but it becomes risky after 9:30 PM. Major transit hubs like Oshodi and Dopemu Under-Bridge can have street boys (Area Boys) pickpocketing late-night commuters. It is highly advised to finish your journey before 9:00 PM.
If there is no heavy traffic, the journey takes about 35 to 45 minutes. However, during the intense morning or evening rush hours, or when it rains heavily, the traffic at Ikeja Along and Dopemu can easily stretch your travel time to 1.5 or 2 hours.
