If you live in Lagos or you are visiting for the first time, you have probably heard people talk about Gbagada. It is one of the most popular, peaceful, and central residential areas on the Lagos Mainland. But where exactly is Gbagada located, and why does everyone seem to pass through it? Whether you are moving to a new apartment, going for a job interview, or just visiting a friend, this practical guide will show you exactly where Gbagada is and how to get there without stress.
Gbagada is centrally located within the Shomolu Local Government Area of Lagos State, though parts of it stretch into the Kosofe Local Government Area. It sits perfectly between the Lagos Mainland and the Lagos Island, making it a major transit hub. If you look at the map of Lagos, Gbagada is like a middle ground that connects different major areas.
Gbagada is divided into two main parts by the famous Gbagada Express Road (also known as the OworonshokiβOshodi Expressway):
Because of its strategic position, Gbagada shares borders with other bustling suburbs like Oworonshoki to the east, Ifako-Bariga to the south, Anthony Village to the west, and Ojota to the north.
To navigate Gbagada easily like a local, you need to know the major spots where people drop off or use as reference points. Here are the main landmarks you should look out for:
This is arguably the most famous landmark in the entire area. Located in Phase 2, almost every commercial driver, Keke rider, and Uber driver knows this place. If you are lost, just ask for the General Hospital.
This is a major intersection on the expressway. It connects commuters coming from Oshodi and Ikeja straight into the heart of Gbagada via the inner link roads.
This massive, ultra-modern church building dominates the skyline in the inner parts of Gbagada (around the Charly Boy area). It is a major destination point, especially on weekends and mid-week service days.
Named after the famous Nigerian entertainer who used to live around there, this is a very busy junction inside Gbagada that connects commuters to inner residential estates and neighboring Bariga.
Because Gbagada sits right along the OworonshokiβOshodi Expressway, entering and leaving the area is quite straightforward. Here is how you can access Gbagada from different parts of Lagos:
If you are coming from the Island, your journey will take you across the Third Mainland Bridge. As soon as you descend the bridge into Oworonshoki, you are already at the gateway to Gbagada. You can board a direct yellow bus (Danfo) from Obalende or CMS heading towards Oshodi or Mile 2, and tell the conductor you will drop at "Gbagada" or "Oworonshoki" bus stop.
From Ikeja, you can take a bus heading towards Oshodi, then connect to another bus heading down the expressway towards Third Mainland Bridge. Alternatively, from Berger, you can board a bus going to Oshodi, drop at Anthony Bus Stop, and take a short Keke (tricycle) ride or a direct connecting Danfo straight into Gbagada Phase 1 or 2.
This is the most direct route. Gbagada is located along the same straight expressway. Any bus you enter from Oshodi heading towards Third Mainland Bridge or Lagos Island will pass directly in front of Gbagada. You just need to tell the conductor your exact bus stop (e.g., Gbagada Oke, Pedro, or Charlie Boy).
Due to recent fuel price increases and transport fare inflation across Nigeria, transportation prices fluctuate based on the time of day, weather, and traffic conditions. Below is a realistic estimate of what you should expect to spend today when commuting to Gbagada:
| Route Corridor | Preferred Transport Mode | Estimated Fare Range (Current Prices) |
|---|---|---|
| CMS / Obalende to Gbagada Junction | Commercial Bus (Danfo) | β¦800 - β¦1,300 |
| Oshodi to Gbagada Oke / Charlie Boy | Commercial Bus (Danfo) | β¦500 - β¦900 |
| Ikeja (Under Bridge) to Gbagada Phase 2 | Keke Marwa / Danfo Connect | β¦700 - β¦1,200 |
| Berger to Anthony (then connect to Gbagada) | Danfo Bus + Keke Ride | β¦1,000 - β¦1,500 |
| Yaba to Gbagada (via Pedro/Bariga) | Danfo Bus / Mini-Bus (Korope) | β¦600 - β¦1,000 |
| Inside Gbagada (Drop/Short trips) | Tricycle (Keke) or Shared Ride | β¦300 - β¦500 |
Note: Always hold "change" (smaller naira notes) when boarding Danfos to avoid arguments with conductors, especially during peak rush hours.

Gbagada is located on the Lagos Mainland. However, it sits right at the foot of the Third Mainland Bridge, making it one of the closest and most accessible Mainland suburbs to the Lagos Island.
While most standard yellow Danfo buses go to CMS or Obalende, you can easily get direct mini-buses (Korope) or Coaster buses heading straight to Lekki and Ajah at the major Gbagada/Oworonshoki expressway bus stops, especially during morning rush hours.
