Ebute Metta West is one of the oldest and most important neighborhoods in Lagos State. If you are a traveler or a resident, you probably know this place as the "home of the railway." It is a busy district that blends old colonial history with modern transport infrastructure. Whether you are coming to catch the train to Ibadan or you want to buy cheap food items from the nearby Oyingbo market, Ebute Metta West is a place you cannot miss.
For those who are new to Lagos, Ebute Metta is divided into two parts: East and West. While the East side is closer to the Lagoon and Oyingbo, the West side is where most of the administrative and transport action happens. It is a very lively area where you will see people rushing to work, "danfo" buses calling passengers, and the loud horns of the big trains moving in and out of the terminal.
Ebute Metta West falls strictly under the Lagos Mainland Local Government Area. The headquarters of this LGA is actually located within the Ebute Metta axis. This area is centrally located, making it easy to connect to Lagos Island via the Third Mainland Bridge or Eko Bridge, and also easy to reach the "Upper Mainland" areas like Yaba, Surulere, and Mushin.
The terrain is mostly flat and urbanized, with many old "Brazilian-style" houses that tell the story of Lagos from many years ago. It shares borders with Alagomeji, Iponri, and the Costain area.

1. Oshodi Terminal: From Oshodi, you can find buses going to Oyingbo or Yaba. Tell the conductor you will "drop" at Alagomeji or Railway Compound.
2. CMS/Marina: There are many buses and even the Blue Line Rail nearby that can bring you close to this axis. Most buses heading to Mainland will pass through Ebute Metta.
3. Yaba Park: Since Yaba is very close, you can take a short Keke Napep ride directly into Ebute Metta West.
They are very close, but not exactly the same. Oyingbo is more of a market hub on the edge of Ebute Metta, while Ebute Metta West is the residential and administrative area where the railway station is located.
It is under the Lagos Mainland Local Government Area.
Currently, the direct train from Mobolaji Johnson Station goes to Ibadan. To get to Abuja by rail, you usually have to take the train from Itakpe or use other connecting routes, as the Lagos-Abuja direct line is still a future project.
