Moving from Ketu Mile 12 to Akoka takes you from a busy market area down into a major student community. While the physical distance is not too long, the heavy traffic on Ikorodu Road can slow you down heavily. This guide gives you the best direct and alternative routes using commercial yellow buses (Danfo), the BRT system, and local tricycles (Keke) while budgeting for current fuel prices.

Go to the main motor park at Mile 12 or wait by the roadside at Ketu Bus Stop. Board a straight yellow Danfo bus heading to Yaba.
Stay on the bus as it drives through Ojota, Maryland, Onipanu, and Fadeyi. Drop at the final stop which is Yaba Bus Terminus.
From Yaba, walk towards the front of the Presbyterian Church or the park near the market. Board another short-trip Danfo bus or a Keke Marwa heading directly into Akoka.
Tell the conductor or driver to drop you at your specific destination inside Akoka, such as St. Finbarr's, UNILAG Gate, or Federal College of Education (FCE).
Always hold small change ('wazo' or β¦200/β¦100 notes) to pay the Danfo conductor. If you give them a β¦1,000 or β¦5,000 note, they might marry you to another passenger, which will waste your time.
Keep your bag zipped and in front of you at Yaba and Mile 12 parks to avoid pickpockets.
If you cannot find a direct Yaba bus at Ketu, enter a short one to Ojota first for β¦300, then take a Yaba bus from Ojota park.

Best Time to Travel
To beat the morning rush, try to leave Ketu Mile 12 between 6:00 AM and 6:45 AM. If you miss this window, wait until the off-peak period starting from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. For evening movement, avoid traveling from Yaba back towards Mile 12 between 4:30 PM and 8:30 PM unless you are ready to sit in gridlock.
Safety Rating
Medium - The route is generally safe during the day because it is always busy. However, pickpocketing is very common at major bus stops like Mile 12, Ketu, Ojota, and Yaba. Avoid showing your phone or carrying expensive items openly. At night, stay alert around Yaba under-bridge and Mile 12 under-bridge as boys come out to snatch bags.
BRT / Rail / Water
Yes, the Blue/Red line rail does not cover this direct path, but the Lagos BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system runs perfectly from Mile 12 through Ketu down to Fadeyi/Yaba. Taking the BRT is the cheapest and fastest way to bypass the standard traffic on Ikorodu Road because they have a dedicated lane.

Ikorodu Road
No, you cannot get a single commercial Danfo that goes directly into Akoka from Mile 12. You must change buses or take a Keke. Your best interchange point is either Yaba or Fadeyi.
Keep at least β¦2,500 to β¦3,000 cash in your pocket for a round trip using public transport. This gives you extra space for unexpected price hikes by conductors due to rain or heavy traffic.
It is risky after 9:30 PM. Places like Mile 12 under-bridge and Yaba under-bridge become dark and isolated, making them targets for street urchins (Area Boys). If you must travel late, use a registered ride-hailing car or stick to heavily crowded buses.
The fastest option is to use the BRT bus from Ketu or Mile 12 because they use a separate lane that cars and Danfos are banned from entering. Drop at Fadeyi or Yaba and take a Keke to finish your journey.
