Moving from the University of Lagos (Unilag) in Akoka to the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex along the Badagry Expressway is a major cross-city journey. This commute takes you from the mainland educational hub, through major transit junctions like Yaba and Mile 2, straight into the heart of West Africa's busiest wholesale trading corridor. Because of heavy traffic around constructions and markets, this journey requires smart timing and a clear understanding of the best bus stops to use.

Best Time to Travel
To beat the worst gridlock, leave Unilag very early between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM, or during the mid-day off-peak window from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Avoid starting this journey between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM unless you want to spend hours trapped in traffic.

Exit the Unilag gate and board a short shuttle bus or enter a Keke going straight to Yaba bus stop.
At Yaba under-bridge, look for the conductors shouting 'Mile 2' and board a direct Danfo going through the expressway.
Drop at Mile 2 bus stop, walk across the pedestrian bridge to the side facing the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Board another Danfo or a large red bus heading down to Okokomaiko or Agbara, and tell the conductor you will drop at Trade Fair.
Always hold small change ('wazo' or β¦200/β¦500 notes) to pay the conductor so you do not get tied up in a 'no change' argument.
Keep your bag strapped firmly to your front when walking around the crowded platforms at Mile 2.
Listen carefully to the conductor; do not sleep off so you do not miss the Trade Fair under-bridge drop-off point.
If a bus heading to 'Okoko' is full, enter one going to 'Alakija' or 'Festac First Gate', then take a cheap short-drop connection to Trade Fair.

Safety Rating
Medium - You must stay sharp and alert. Watch your pockets at major crowded parks like Yaba and Mile 2 under-bridge where pickpockets operate, especially when struggling to board a moving Danfo. Avoid display of expensive phones or large cash.
BRT / Rail / Water
Yes, partial availability. The Blue Line Rail runs from Mile 2 down to Marina, but for this specific direction toward Badagry, you will rely on the newly expanded Lagos-Badagry Expressway BRT corridor. You can catch standard BRT or regulated public buses from Mile 2 directly down to the Trade Fair gate.

If you are using standard public yellow buses (Danfo), you should budget between β¦1,600 and β¦2,500 in total for a one-way trip, depending on the time of day and if it is raining. For private ride-hailing cars, the cost sits between β¦11,000 and β¦16,500.
No, you will rarely find a direct yellow bus from Yaba going all the way to Trade Fair. The standard layout requires you to first enter a bus to Mile 2, drop there, and then board a fresh connection going down to Trade Fair, Okokomaiko, or Badagry.
It is highly recommended to cross Mile 2 before 7:30 PM. Once it gets dark, the under-bridge area and the pedestrian walkways become lonely and poorly lit, which makes it easy for area boys and pickpockets to operate freely.
You can only use the Blue Line Rail partially. You can take it if you are coming from Lagos Island (Marina) down to Mile 2. However, from Mile 2 to Trade Fair, the rail line is not yet operational for commuters, so you must use road transport like buses for that final leg.
