This guide provides the easiest and most practical ways to commute from the busy market hub of Mile 12 and Ketu down to the commercial district of Allen Avenue in Ikeja. Because of current fuel price changes, this guide uses realistic and updated fare ranges to help you plan your journey smoothly using standard commercial buses (Danfo), the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, or tricycles (Keke Marwa).

Walk or take a short drop from your location in Mile 12 to the main Ketu Bus Stop along Ikorodu Road.
At Ketu Bus Stop, stand by the roadside and look out for conductors shouting 'Ojota' or 'Ikeja Under-bridge'. Board a yellow Danfo bus heading towards Ikeja.
Tell the conductor you will drop at 'Ojota' or 'Oregun Junction'. Alight safely at the bus stop.
From Ojota or Oregun junction, board another direct Danfo or a Keke Marwa going straight to Allen Avenue or Ikeja Along, and tell them your final destination is Allen Roundabout.
Always enter the bus with 'change' (smaller denominations of Naira notes) to avoid fights with the driver and conductor.
Listen carefully to the conductor so you do not miss your bus stop, especially if you are not familiar with the Oregun/Ikeja layout.
Keep your bag strapped to your front when standing or waiting for buses at Ketu and Ojota.
If a bus looks suspicious or the passengers inside are acting strange, do not board it.
Due to current fuel price increases, the total cost depends on the option you choose. Using public commercial buses and Kekes will cost you between β¦1,100 and β¦1,800. If you prefer a private ride-hailing car like Bolt or Uber, it will cost between β¦5,000 and β¦8,500 depending on traffic and surge pricing.
No, it is very rare to find a direct yellow Danfo bus going from Mile 12 straight into Allen Avenue. You will almost always have to take a bus to a major connection stop like Ojota or Ikeja Under-bridge first, and then take a second bus or Keke to enter Allen Avenue proper.
It is moderately safe, but you must be very careful after 8:30 PM. Areas like Mile 12 under-bridge, Ketu bus stop, and Ojota can become dangerous with street boys (Area Boys) looking for bags and phones. If you must travel late, use a recognized ride-hailing car or ensure you board a fully loaded commercial bus from a properly designated park.
You can easily top up your Cowry Card at any of the ticketing booths inside the Mile 12 or Ketu BRT stations using cash or bank transfer. Some cashiers can also sell you a new pre-loaded card if you do not have one or if you lost your old card.

Best Time to Travel
To beat the heavy morning rush hour traffic, it is best to leave between 6:00 AM and 6:45 AM. If you miss this window, wait until the off-peak period starting from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM when the roads are relatively free. For the evening return journey, try to move before 4:30 PM or after 8:30 PM to avoid getting stuck in long gridlocks.
Safety Rating
Medium - The route is generally safe during the day, but you must be highly alert at major pick-up points like Mile 12 under-bridge, Ketu, and Ojota. Pickpockets operate heavily in these crowded areas. Keep your phone and wallet safe, and avoid displaying cash. At night, stick to well-lit areas and avoid boarding empty-looking commercial buses.
BRT / Rail / Water
The Lagos BRT system is fully operational along the Ikorodu Road corridor from Mile 12/Ketu down to Ojota. However, there is no direct BRT lane or train service that goes inside Kudirat Abiola Way or Allen Avenue directly. You will use the BRT for the first half of the journey and then switch to standard yellow buses or Kekes for the final stretch.
